S.A.M Kader is the founder and CEO of Buraaq. When Sam read a report stating that there was double-digit growth for recurring businesses; service and consumables, he instantly realised the business potential of an operation like Buraaq. With extensive experience in mining both at a national and international level, Sam brought home to Sandvik a tender valued at R1billion in new equipment sales. Sam also understands “aftermarket” in an economic climate that demands value. These success stories have featured in mining magazines as well as in Sandvik’s own internal magazine, and landed Sam the job portfolio of Business Development Manager for Sandvik.
He is fluent in English, Afrikaans, Urdu, Arabic and isiZulu and is able to communicate to the heart of what matters for his clients and customers. With his direct reports, Sam has clear Performance Development plans in place that encourage high performance levels and job satisfaction. A people’s person, he thrives on adding value to both the person he is in contact with as well as to the operation he is servicing. Buraaq’s Employee Trust Fund is an extension of Sam’s Kader larger vision of ethics and sustainability.
SAM is adamant about being a role model regarding the environment, health and safety and leads by example with social responsibility programmes being high on his action list. His most recent initiative in this regard was the feeding and clothing of orphans at the orphanage in his area.
He was the captain of his school chess team, and is a natural strategist, though further education and training in fields such as Project Management and ISO Approved International Auditing (External and Internal) further honed his skills in strategy and advanced tactical planning.
An Engineer by profession, SAM quickly found a home in mining through sheer guts and hard work. He has filled many management positions from Technical Manager to Senior Key Account Manager working for companies ranging from the Anglo Group to New Vaal Colliery to Sandvik. SAM also served as consultant to the Government of Ethiopia in their mining environment.
SAM has an Honours in Management through the University of Witwatersrand, and is currently studying towards an MBA.
Mr Kader’s work philosophy is fundamental to his success in mining “once you lobby your common focus and vision, then the challenges become simple.”
A devoted family man and sports enthusiast SAM has silver and bronze medals for road running and cycling. He rides for the Reach for a Dream Foundation. Riding for a purpose and touching hearts is something SAM enjoys, and making a difference to the lives of children is a personal goal he aspires to.
